Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGA)

Expert Multi-Use Area Construction

1st-Surface customers benefit from our extensive experience delivering high-quality Multi-Use Games Areas for schools, tennis clubs and community facilities. Built on the same proven principles as our tennis courts, each MUGA is designed to provide durability, safety and long-term performance.

By arranging a site visit, we can fully understand your objectives and recommend the most appropriate surface and fencing system - tailored to the sports being played and the standard of use required. Our aim is to create a versatile, reliable facility that serves your players and community for years to come.

3G Synthetic Grass

3G represents the latest development in synthetic grass technology and is an excellent choice for MUGA construction. Specifically designed for football and multi-use facilities, it is also well suited to sports such as rugby and hockey. The carpet is manufactured from durable polypropylene or polyethylene fibres, typically with a pile height of 40–65mm.

The system is infilled first with specially graded silica sand, followed by a black rubber crumb layer to deliver excellent playing performance and shock absorption. 3G surfaces can be installed to meet a range of FIFA and FA standards, offering reassurance on quality and playability. Designed for year-round use, the surface closely replicates the appearance and performance of natural grass.

Synthetic Grass

Synthetic grass is an excellent solution for facilities hosting tennis, hockey and football. This versatile multi-use surface is designed to replicate the look and feel of natural grass, offering a softer feel underfoot and consistent ball roll suited to each sport.

For activities requiring higher levels of grip, such as netball, alternative surfaces may be more appropriate. In certain installations, a shockpad can be incorporated beneath the carpet to enhance player comfort, particularly for hockey. It is worth noting that this addition may slightly reduce ball bounce for tennis.

TruBounce Macadam

This surface is a popular choice for MUGA construction where tennis and netball are the primary activities. For netball use, the macadam can remain in its natural black finish with clear line markings applied directly to the surface. Alternatively, the entire area can be colour-sprayed using a durable, non-slip coating for enhanced appearance and grip.

The versatility of this surface also makes it suitable for additional sports, including basketball and, where appropriate, football.
